About the position
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Set and verify exact container temperatures, humidity levels, and ventilation settings.
- Secure functional refrigerated containers and generator sets (gensets) from carriers.
- Track vessel ETAs and port cut-offs to prevent spoilage or missed sailings.
- Resolve temperature deviations, equipment failures, or port delays immediately.
- Coordinate import/export declarations and compliance checks.
- Issue and verify Bills of Lading (B/L), commercial invoices, and packing lists matching strict destination criteria
- Provide status reports on cargo condition, container power status, and vessel movements.
- Manage relationships with cold storage warehouses, trucking companies, and inspection authorities.
- Manage shipping files from initial booking through final job costing and invoicing.
- Check vendor invoices (freight, plugging fees, storage, and demurrage) against agreed tariffs.
- Insurance arrangements between client and internal
- Pre alerts (sending the doc pack to client before courier)
- Arranging loadings with transporters, clients, PPECB, cold stores/packhouses etc
- Liaising daily (including all queries) with clients, shipping lines, vendors, packhouse and cold stores, government departments.

Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric certificate.
- Tertiary qualification in logistics, supply chain, or forwarding is an advantage.
- 3 to 5+ years of experience in ocean freight operations (imports/exports).
- Specific, proven track record handling perishable or temperature-controlled cargo (such as fruit, food, or cold-chain goods)
- Deep understanding of perishables export/import documentation ( temperature logs, bills of lading ect)
- Knowledge of customs regulations and port/shipping line procedures.
- Familiarity with International shipping terms.
- Strong attention to detail to prevent costly cold-chain or documentation errors.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
