Location: Benoni, Gauteng
Job Purpose
Lead and manage the production team to safely produce quality castings that meet customer specifications, production targets and business objectives. Responsible for people, production, safety, quality, costs, equipment and continuous improvement on the shop floor.
Requirements:
- Qualified Moulder or recognised Trade Qualification relevant to the production environment.
- Supervisory or Leadership qualification will be advantageous.
- Minimum of 8 years' foundry production experience.
- Minimum of 5–8 years' supervisory or team leadership experience in a heavy manufacturing or foundry environment.
- Proven experience managing production teams and achieving operational targets.
Knowledge
- Foundry manufacturing processes.
- Production planning and scheduling.
- Quality management systems.
- Root Cause Analysis and problem-solving techniques.
- Occupational Health and Safety Act and related legislation.
- Labour legislation and sound Industrial Relations practices.
- Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Company work instructions and quality procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & People Management: Lead and allocate work to employees, communicate targets and expectations, manage attendance and discipline, conduct toolbox talks and meetings, and develop employees and future leaders.
- Production: Execute production plans, achieve daily/weekly/monthly targets, monitor productivity and equipment utilisation, minimise downtime, and ensure accurate production reporting.
- Quality: Ensure castings meet customer and company standards, reduce scrap and rework, investigate defects, and implement corrective actions.
- Safety & Environment: Ensure compliance with OH&S requirements, company procedures and PPE standards. Conduct inspections, manage risks, report incidents and drive a strong safety culture.
- Employee Development: Set performance expectations, coach employees, identify training needs and conduct performance reviews.
- Industrial Relations: Apply company policies consistently, manage misconduct and poor performance, and maintain positive employee relations.
- Cost Control: Manage labour, overtime and material costs, reduce waste and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Equipment: Ensure equipment is used correctly, defects are reported, maintenance is coordinated and downtime is minimised.
- Housekeeping & Continuous Improvement: Maintain 5S standards, identify improvement opportunities, conduct root-cause investigations and support Lean Manufacturing initiatives.
Overall Accountability
The Foreman is accountable for safety, production, quality, employee performance, discipline, cost control, equipment, compliance and continuous improvement within the assigned production area, while ensuring effective use of people and resources.
