About the position
A luxury retirement lifestyle estate on the Garden Route is appointing the General Manager of its new Lifestyle Centre - a 200-seat restaurant, a coffee bar, and catering for a 30-bed sub-acute hospital and a 60-bed frail care centre on the same estate. You join the management team during 2026 to assist with planning, procurement, recruitment, menu development and operational setup, ahead of the official opening in April 2027. The role leads and manages hospitality and food service operations across the Lifestyle Centre. The mandate is commercial as well as operational: building patronage from residents, families and the wider estate through promotions, themed events and seasonal campaigns, alongside ownership of food costing, menu pricing, stock and financial performance. On the healthcare side you work with the company dietician on therapeutic and clinically appropriate menus. It is a visible role - the expectation is presence in the restaurant during service periods rather than in an office. You will need to have run a restaurant, hotel or premium hospitality operation with the financial side genuinely in your hands - costing, pricing and stock - together with POS and integrated stock systems and food safety and hygiene legislation. The estate's residents are largely Afrikaans, so you must be able to work in both Afrikaans and English. The role is based in Hartenbos, Mossel Bay, and will suit someone ready to relocate to the Garden Route.
