About the position
This hands-on role suits a qualified Fitter & Turner who thrives on solving problems, preventing downtime and keeping a demanding production environment running safely and efficiently.
Join a well-established manufacturing business in Alberton and will work across planned maintenance, breakdowns, machining, welding and improvement projects—while playing a key role in maintaining strict BRC compliance standards.
Duties / Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned, preventative and breakdown maintenance
- Diagnose faults and respond quickly to production stoppages
- Fit, assemble, repair and upgrade mechanical systems
- Perform machining and welding work
- Inspect machinery, equipment and facility infrastructure
- Interpret engineering drawings and assist with projects
- Participate in standby duties on a roster basis
- Maintain strong BRC compliance across hazard and risk management, cleaning schedules and records, foreign-body controls, glass and brittle-plastic controls, document control and file management
Requirements
- 3–5 years’ post-apprenticeship maintenance experience
- Experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Strong machining and practical mechanical skills
- Sound understanding of BRC compliance requirements
- Own reliable transport
- Food-packaging experience advantageous
- Willingness to work standby and attend call-outs
Education
- Matric / NQF Level 4
- Qualified Fitter & Turner
- Trade Test / Red Seal certification
Soft Skills
- Methodical, safety-conscious and detail-focused, with strong problem-solving, communication and teamwork skills.
Salary
- The proposed salary for the role is R25k - R31k per month - the final offer will depend on qualifications, experience and skills.
