About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Fire Safety Engineering Consultant to take on a leadership role in the design, engineering, and administration of fire protection systems across multiple projects. You will be responsible for overseeing the entire project lifecycle, from conceptual design to project handover, while ensuring fire safety systems meet all necessary regulations. The role involves supervising a team of junior engineers and draughtsmen and collaborating with various stakeholders to deliver projects on time and to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design & Engineering: Lead the design of fire protection systems including sprinklers, detection, gas suppression, and smoke ventilation.
- Project Management: Oversee the entire project from conception to handover, including cost estimation, rational fire design reports, and approval from relevant authorities.
- Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor junior engineers and draughtsmen, ensuring high-quality designs and effective project delivery.
- Contract Administration: Manage contractor performance, inspect the quality of on-site work, ensure compliance with contract documents, and handle variation orders.
- Auditing & Reporting: Conduct fire safety audits and produce detailed, actionable reports with recommendations based on fire engineering best practices.
- Internal Management: Monitor project progress, timelines, and budgets to ensure timely delivery and adherence to quality standards.
- Client Interaction: Provide expert advice to clients and maintain clear communication to ensure project milestones and expectations are met.
Qualifications, Experience, and Professional Registration:
- A Mechanical Engineering Degree (BSc/BEng) or B. Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited South African university or institute.
- Must be a Registered Professional Engineer with ECSA (Engineering Council of South Africa). This is non-negotiable.
- Minimum 10 years of consulting engineering experience, with at least 5 years post-registration as a professional engineer.
- Expertise in fire protection system design, including sprinkler systems, detection, gas suppression, smoke ventilation, and rational fire design reports (in accordance with BS7974).
- Demonstrated experience in project management and leading teams in a consulting environment.

- Strong technical knowledge of fire safety engineering principles and systems.
- Excellent project management skills, with a proven ability to manage budgets, timelines, and teams.
- In-depth understanding of national building regulations and fire safety standards.
- Exceptional leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and ensure successful delivery.
- Proficiency with fire safety design software and related engineering tools.
