About the position
We are seeking a Financial Reporting Accountant; this role is a contract role- onsite.
The Group Reporting team requires short-term financial reporting support from an experienced financial reporting accountant to provide capacity during the specified reporting period and support the delivery of monthly, quarterly and ad hoc group reporting requirements.
The consultant will work closely with the Group Reporting team and business unit finance teams to prepare, review and consolidate financial information, support regulatory and committee reporting, and assist with reporting process improvements.
The objective of the engagement is to provide hands-on financial reporting capacity to ensure the Group Reporting team continues to meet its monthly, quarterly, regulatory and committee reporting deliverables within agreed timelines and quality standards. The role requires a technically strong accountant who can operate independently, engage effectively with stakeholders, and produce accurate, well-supported financial reporting outputs.
Key Responsibilities
- Support month-end reporting processes, including preparation and review of financial results, variance analysis and commentary for management reporting packs.
- Assist with Group Exco reporting, including consolidation of inputs, preparation of clear commentary and resolution of reporting queries.
- Support Investment Committee reporting requirements, including preparation of financial schedules and supporting analysis.
- Assist with regulatory reporting submissions, including SARB reporting and related supporting schedules.
- Support license and Group QRT submissions, ensuring completeness, accuracy and alignment to underlying financial records.
- Assist with the optimisation, review and maintenance of reporting workbooks, templates and reconciliations.
- Respond to ad hoc reporting queries from business units and provide technical accounting support where required.
Required Experience
- Qualified CA(SA).
- 7 to 10 years’ financial accounting and reporting experience, including at least 5 years in insurance or financial services.
- Strong group reporting, consolidation or insurance reporting experience, with exposure to life or non-life insurance preferred.
- Sound knowledge of relevant financial reporting standards and local regulatory frameworks; QRT reporting experience would be advantageous.
- Audit experience, preferably within financial services or insurance.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced reporting environment and deliver high-quality outputs within tight deadlines.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Strong knowledge of IFRS, financial accounting principles and group reporting processes.
- Understanding of insurance financial reporting, regulatory reporting and related prudential requirements.
- Advanced Excel capability, including the ability to work with complex reporting workbooks, reconciliations and data extracts.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to identify issues, investigate variances and explain financial movements clearly.
- Good business acumen and ability to interpret financial information in a commercial context.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, including the ability to engage with business unit finance teams and senior finance stakeholders.
- Ability to work well under pressure, manage competing priorities and maintain quality during peak reporting cycles.
