Contract Duration: 18 months (Full-time assignment)
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Financial Modeler to join the Infrastructure Finance Unit within a leading institution focused on accelerating infrastructure development across South Africa. This role offers the opportunity to work on large-scale infrastructure projects in key sectors such as energy, water and sanitation, transport, communications, human settlements, agriculture, health, education, and municipal infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, review, and enhance complex financial models to support infrastructure project structuring, financing, and implementation.
- Support business case analysis and funding processes through to financial close.
- Assess the commercial viability of project options and quantify future cash flow requirements, borrowing needs, and tariff structures.
- Conduct scenario testing and sensitivity analysis on financial models.
- Derive key outputs including NPV, IRR, DSCR, capital and O&M tariffs, and other relevant financial ratios.
- Establish optimal transaction structures and funding sources to support project delivery.
- Document financial modelling processes, assumptions, and quality assurance measures.
- Provide structuring insights and respond to stakeholders' queries during project negotiations.
- Ensure models adhere to recognized modelling standards (e.g. FAST, SMART, Corality).
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Economics, Econometrics, Engineering, Actuarial Science, Business Administration, or another numeric field.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in financial modelling of large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Proven track record of developing or auditing at least five financial models for infrastructure projects (each = R100 million) that achieved financial close.
- Advanced Excel proficiency with strong financial modelling skills.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
Advantageous
- Experience in infrastructure finance structuring.
- Familiarity with public sector infrastructure governance and funding approval frameworks.
- Exposure to integrated management systems in infrastructure or public sector contexts.
Additional Information
- This is a full-time contract position (18 months). The role will require working primarily on-site, with some flexibility for remote work (subject to approval).
