About the position

Role purpose:

The Financial Manager for Operations, a pivotal role held by a Chartered Accountant, is dedicated to overseeing and optimizing the financial aspects of the company's operations. This role is integral to ensuring the efficient management of operational finances, improving cost controls, and driving profitability. The Financial Manager for Operations works closely with operational teams to implement financial best practices, streamline processes, and provide strategic financial insight that supports operational excellence and contributes to the company's overall financial health.

Must have technical / professional qualifications:

  • Chartered Accountant certification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial planning and analysis, preferably within a similar industry.

Key accountabilities and decision ownership :

  • Cash Flow Management: Define and implement effective cash flow management strategies to optimize liquidity and ensure smooth operational funding.
  • Reconciliation Oversight: Review and ensure the accuracy of reconciliations for Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR), maintaining financial integrity.
  • Prepare exco reports and month end results reports
  • Run Group Audits
  • Review annual financial statements across the group,
  • Manage consistency between SAGE and HFM
  • Manage HFM loads for entities
  • Manage budget process
  • Consolidation of the Business monthly
  • Implementation and improve consistent financial processes for group entities
  • Manage and improve the Business group financial reporting
  • Group Responsibilities:
  • Audit Queries Management: Address and resolve management queries related to audits for both South African and UK entities, ensuring compliance and accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Month-End Close: Take responsibility for the timely and accurate closing of month-end financials in Hyperion Financial Management (HFM), ensuring all financial activities are appropriately recorded.
  • Data Management: Oversee the uploading and review of CSV files for financial data, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Revenue Billing Queries: Respond to and resolve queries related to revenue billing each month, ensuring clear communication and resolution of discrepancies.
  • Bad Debt Provisions: Calculate and assess bad debt provisions, adjusting for credit risk and potential losses.
  • Payments Review: Review all outgoing payments for accuracy and authorization, ensuring compliance with financial policies.
  • Commissions Calculation: Manage and calculate commission models, ensuring fair and accurate compensation based on predefined criteria.
  • Fixed Revenue Analysis: Analyze fixed revenue streams, identifying trends and areas for optimization.
  • Bank Mandates: Manage and maintain bank mandates, ensuring authorized access and control over company bank accounts.
  • Reporting Automation: Institute and automate the monthly reporting cube, enhancing efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Fixed Asset Register: Maintain the fixed asset register, ensuring accurate tracking and valuation of company assets.
  • Annual Financial Statements: Prepare annual financial statements

in accordance with applicable accounting standards and regulations.

  • Revenue and Cost of Sales Reporting: Generate detailed reports on revenue and cost of sales, providing insights into profitability and cost management.
  • Business Case Reviews: Review business cases for profitability and financial viability, supporting strategic decision-making.
  • Balance Sheet Reconciliations: Conduct thorough balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and integrity in financial reporting.
  • Consolidation Reviews: Perform consolidation reviews for year-end and month-end closing, ensuring accurate representation of the company's financial position.
  • Payment Pack Sign-off: Authorize and sign off on payment packs, ensuring all payments are validated and approved.
  • Audit and Compliance: Lead audit reviews and maintain compliance with financial regulations and standards, addressing any findings and implementing necessary changes.
  • Group Accounting Responsibilities: Manage ad-hoc group accounting responsibilities, including the capitalization of capital expenditures (CAPEX), ensuring alignment with accounting policies and strategic objectives
  • Accrual Management: Oversee the accurate raising of accruals for month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring all incurred expenses and revenues are accurately reflected in financial statements.
  • IFRS 9 Compliance: Ensure compliance with IFRS 9, particularly in relation to bad debt provisions, by accurately assessing and recording expected credit losses, enhancing the robustness of financial reporting.

Must have technical / professional qualifications:

  • Chartered Accountant certification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial planning and analysis, preferably within a similar industry.
  • Proficiency in Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) , VIP , ESSBASE and advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting standards and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
