About the position
Our client is looking for a qualified Chartered Accountant who rolls up their sleeves. You will own the finance function day to day: you prepare the numbers, close the month, run the audit file and keep the group compliant. This is a hands-on, operational role, ideal for a CA(SA) who completed articles recently and wants real ownership in a growing education group.
Key responsibilities
Financial accounting and month-end
- Run the full month-end close: journals, accruals, prepayments, provisions and intercompany entries
- Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations (bank, debtors, creditors, VAT, payroll control, intercompany)
- Maintain the general ledger and fixed asset register
- Prepare monthly management accounts with variance commentary
Reporting and audit
- Prepare annual financial statements under IFRS / IFRS for SMEs
- Prepare the audit file and act as the primary contact for external auditors
- Resolve audit findings and implement control improvements
Tax and compliance
- Prepare and submit VAT201, EMP201 and EMP501 returns; support provisional and income tax submissions
- Maintain SARS, CIPC and B-BBEE compliance documentation
- Ensure accreditation-related financial reporting (e.g. CHE / DHET requirements) is accurate and on time
Budgeting, cash and controls
- Build and maintain the annual budget and rolling forecasts
- Monitor cash flow, student debtors and collections
- Review and strengthen internal controls, approval workflows and policies
- Oversee payroll inputs and reconciliations
Minimum requirements
- CA(SA), registered with SAICA
- Completed SAICA articles (audit or TOPP)
- 1–4 years post-articles experience in a hands-on financial accounting or financial management role
- Proven track record of month-end closes, AFS preparation and clean audit outcomes
- Strong working knowledge of IFRS, VAT and SA payroll tax
- Advanced Excel; experience on an ERP or accounting system (Sage, Pastel, Xero, SAP Business One or similar)
