About the position

Our client in the Private Equity industry is looking to have a seasoned Financial Manager join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the institution, including financial reporting, planning, strategy, controls, profitability, cash flow management, and portfolio company financial status. Additionally, the candidate will play a crucial role in fostering leadership within the financial team and across portfolio companies.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting:

  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations.
  • Direct the preparation of income statements, balance sheets, cashflow statements, shareholder reports and tax returns
  • Plan and manage the external audit and review processes
  • Prepare portfolio company valuations and investment return calculations
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations.

Financial Planning and Strategy:

  • Develop financial strategies by forecasting capital, facility and staff requirements
  • Design, implement and perform financial risk management procedures
  • Organise and maintain an effective group structure to avoid unnecessary economic loss or expenditure
  • Develops financial well-being of the organization by providing financial projections, preparing growth plans and providing leadership, direction and management of the finance and accounting team
  • Providing strategic recommendations to the CEO and members of the executive management team
  • Review the financial planning process and suggests improvements to current methods
  • Assist with the evaluation of the company's fundraising plans and capital structure
  • Oversee investment of funds and assist in raising capital
  • Establishing and developing relations with senior management and external partners and stakeholders

Financial Controls:

  • Develop, maintain and enforce sound financial controls around the processing, capture and release of funds to internal and external recipients
  • Maintain the integrity of the accounting systems, their use and access
  • Set authorisation limits for staff tasked with the handling payments
  • Ensure compliance with laws and company policies
  • Conduct regular internal audits and reviews to identify and mitigate risks.

Managing Profitability and Cashflow:

  • Ensure that group entities can meet short-term cashflow needs while planning and managing long-term cashflow requirements and the need for cash accumulation
  • Analyse operations to identify areas in need of reorganisation, downsizing, or elimination
  • Review expenses and assess their appropriateness for the type of entity, its purpose and contribution to the success of the company's operation
  • Manage the pace of expenditure and cash requirements for business and regulatory purposes
  • Determine finance KPIs

Managing Portfolio Companies Financial Status:

  • Assist the investment team in the financial and tax due diligence process
  • Review investment models for accuracy, completeness and consider the impact of forecast error
  • Assist with investment strategy decisions by considering cash and liquidity risks

Fostering Leadership:

  • Manage relationships with external financial bodies such as auditors, funders, regulators, and key suppliers
  • Become a valued business partner to the CEO and executive suite

Qualifications:

  • CA(SA) Accreditation
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in financial management, with a strong understanding of private equity or investment management.
  • Proven track record in financial reporting, planning, strategy, and controls.
  • Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in financial management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
