About the position
Our Belgian client, a rapidly growing provider of pallet racking and shelving systems and robotics-driven warehouse automation and storage solutions, is looking to appoint a Financial / General Ledger Accountantto work from their Stellenbosch office while supporting their international Shared Services Centre.
The Genel Ledger Accountant function is responsible for accurately presenting the company’s financial statements. It operates using the accounting and management information provided through various internal reports and ensures that all financial records and disclosures comply with applicable international accounting standards.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a Financial or General Ledger Accountant role or similar.
- Fluency in English communication, both written and verbal
- Knowledge and Experience of SAP ERP system (Required)
- Excellent knowledge of MS Office, namely MS Excel (Required)
- Solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting principles
- Experience with multiple VAT jurisdictions (advantageous)
- An analytical mindset and strong organizational skills
- The ability to work independently with an overseas finance team.
Tasks and responsibilities
- Contribute to the accurate recording and reporting of the company’s general accounting records.
- Prepare and submit monthly VAT, Intrastat, balance of payments and other statutory or regulatory returns, where applicable.
- Prepare the annual VAT listing and assist with foreign VAT refund claims, including liaison with relevant government or tax authorities.
- Assist with monthly, quarterly and year-end close processes, including reconciliations of general ledger and balance sheet accounts.
- Manage monthly intercompany reconciliations and coordination.
- Prepare internal and external audit files and supporting documentation.
- Create, calculate and monitor commission-related entries and reporting.
- Prepare cash-flow planning information and assist with funding and financing follow-up.
- Respond to finance-related queries from internal stakeholders.
- Proactively inform management of relevant trends, risks, issues and developments.
- Work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including line management, Accounts Receivable, Treasury, Financial Controllers, external accountants and auditors.
- Carry out any other finance-related duties that may reasonably be required in the company’s interest.
Practical arrangements:
- Must be able to work from the Stellenbosch office 4 days per week.
- Must have a valid passport and be willing and able to travel to Belgium and/or Portugal for training, if required.
