About the position

The role holder will join the company's Financial Accounting and Reporting Department and assist with accounting and reporting tasks in line with the company's, shareholder and statutory requirements, The role entails effective reporting, monitoring and control measures in an ethically and technically correct manner and in line with IFRS requirements.
Key Accountabilities
Functional Management

  • This role reports into the Head of Statutory Reporting and its responsibilities span across all legal entities within the Group.
  • Preparation of the monthly IFRS-based reporting process (IFRS 4 and IFRS 17) and submission to the Fairfax Group via the OneStream System
  • Preparation of month-end finance packs (Consolidation and separate legal entities)
  • Responsible for assisting in the managing the external auditing process for annual financial statements and other relevant processes.
  • Preparation of the annual financial statements for all entities and support subsidiary company financial accounting processes.
  • Ensure timeous and accurate delivery of statutory and regulatory reporting, including solvency reporting on an interim and SAM basis.
  • Perform analytical reviews of IFRS and regulatory results and determine reasons for variances.
  • Ensure a clean audit report in relation to all regulatory and statutory reporting.
  • Identify contravention of compliance and implement controls to ensure all compliance requirements are continuously met.
  • Network through memberships of various, appropriate associations.
  • Assist with investment accounting and reporting activities; ensure that investment transactions are recorded in the accounting system on a timely basis and in line with IFRS and the Group reporting requirements.
  • Taxation - Calculation of income tax and deferred tax calculations and management of direct and indirect tax submissions to SARS
  • Teamwork in line with the company's guiding principles and culture, within a results-oriented environment. Act as an ambassador for the culture and desired behaviours.

  • CA(SA)
  • 3 -5 years experience in a relevant field
  • Exposure to insurance (life, general and reinsurance) - Preferably
  • Sound knowledge of IFRS, including Insurance Accounting standards
  • Knowledge of the Insurance Act, including solvency requirements - Preferably
  • Knowledge of SAM solvency legislation and reporting requirements - Preferably

  • This role is based at our Head Office in Rosebank.
