Our client is a well-established US-based infrastructure and utilities group operating through several key subsidiaries across pipeline, excavation, and traffic management services. Known for their commitment to innovation, safety, and service delivery, they are seeking a Finance Controller in South Africa to join their remote team. This role offers the opportunity to contribute at a strategic level, working closely with senior leadership while supporting long-term growth and financial integrity.

The Role: Finance Controller
As the Finance Controller, you will lead the full finance function across all business entities, driving accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in financial operations. You will be a trusted strategic partner to the CFO, responsible for reporting, budgeting, audits, and team leadership. This is a hands-on leadership role for a commercially astute finance professional ready to make an impact in a fast-paced, remote working environment aligned to US time zones.

Key Responsibilities

  • Minimum 7 years experience in finance/accounting, including 3+ years in a leadership role
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a remote accounting team across AP, AR, payroll, and GL functions
  • Prepare and deliver accurate financial statements (monthly, quarterly, annually)
  • Oversee compliance, audits, tax filings, and maintain robust internal controls
  • Manage budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning
  • Monitor cash flow and capital needs to support business growth
  • Provide financial analysis and modeling to support strategic decisions
  • Support M&A, due diligence, and post-acquisition integration
  • Identify financial risks, drive cost-efficiencies, and improve operational processes

About You

  • Minimum 7 years' finance experience, with 3+ years in a senior or leadership role
  • CPA qualified (essential), with a Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, or similar
  • Deep knowledge of US GAAP and regulatory compliance
  • Experience with financial planning, analysis, reporting, and team leadership
  • Strong ERP experience (e.g., Sage, NetSuite) and advanced Excel proficiency
  • Experience in the construction or utilities sector preferred
  • Clear communicator who can simplify financial insights for non-finance stakeholders
  • Highly organized, detail-driven, and able to thrive in a remote, deadline-driven environment
