Purpose of the job
The Finance Business Partner supports the trading division to proactively manage their financial results and forecasts through providing insight, advice and decision-making support. This role requires someone that is commercially astute and has a deep understanding of the business and its value drivers, ensuring that the approach is tailored to meet the business needs.
Purposefully commercial, the role will utilise analytical skills to support the business in finding and capitalising on opportunities in order to grow and help to drive effective and efficient performance.
The role has overall responsibility for the effective functioning of finance within the trading division supported by the specialist capabilities in the Finance CoEs and the transactional capability of the SSC.

Qualifications and Experience
- CA (SA) qualification or NQF equivalent.
- 5-8 years' post qualification experience in Finance management role
- Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated Profit and Loss accountability.
- Solid retail experience
- Exposure in a manufacturing environment advantageous
Key Performance Areas
Strategy:
- Be involved in influencing strategy and policy decisions beyond the Finance function into the trading division;
- Support the exploration of new business opportunities;
- Focus on exploring new sources of growth for the trading division.
- Shift the orientation to the future, re-prioritising ahead of historical reporting;
- Drive shared accountability for business decisions within trading division;
- Engage with key decisions makers across the business, supported by real time access to insight and data;
Financial management, reporting and analysis:
- Be the custodian of financial and non-financial data and business metrics, influencing and impacting business decisions at all levels for the trading division;
- Drive commercial acumen within the trading division;
- Develop and prepare budgets, projections, and 3-5-year plans with ongoing oversight;
- Manage and report on all financial trading division activities for the business/ to COEs;
- Drive insights beyond the numbers, using predictive tools, models and external insights for the trading division (e.g., Babson principles);
- Perform the use of scenarios and 'now what' analysis - supported by predictive data;
- Link all business information and reporting of business together, within the trading division;
- Manage and control the stock management processes for "write offs";
- Manage the ROI on all Capex projects in line with divisional financial requirements;
- Identify key business drivers for ROCE, analyse current performance and recommend actionable measures to improve it.
Commercial Decision support:
- Collaborate with the Operations team to perform new store viabilities aligned to location strategy;
- Collaborate with the Merchandise teams to optimise inventory days and associated stock metrics;
- Review store profitability and support Head of Business and Head of Operations in key strategic decisions;
- Evaluate external commercial opportunities and M&A candidates.
Leadership:
- Oversee talent management for direct reports in terms of recruitment, retention and development;
- Ensuring continuous performance feedback to and development of direct reports;
- Ensure that all staff are motivated, developed, and appraised so that individual and collective performance meets the needs of the customers;
- Effectively manage performance within the team in order to ensure business objectives are achieved.
Stakeholder Relationships:
- Collaborate with key stakeholders in the business's management team, supporting those areas to cost or determine the viability of other business or commercial opportunities;
- Ensure collaboration with internal stakeholders to drive strong interactions and engagements across the finance operating model;
- Manage relationship with Finance CoEs and Shared Services division;
- Ensure the engagement with relevant internal and external stakeholders within TFG.
