Brief Job Description:
  • The Financial/Accounting Intern plays a key role in supporting the company’s accounting and financial management processes
  • This position focuses on maintaining accurate financial records, supporting reporting and compliance activities, and ensuring the integrity of all financial transactions
  • The role is ideal for an individual developing their career in accounting and finance, providing hands-on exposure to bookkeeping, reconciliations, financial analysis, and compliance within a structured, learning-oriented environment




Key Responsibilities:
  • Core Financial Accounting Duties:

  • Record, classify, and reconcile financial transactions in line with IFRS and company accounting policies
  • Maintain the general ledger, prepare journal entries, and support month-end closing and reporting
  • Assist with invoicing, collections, and accounts receivable management to ensure effective cash flow
  • Verify supplier invoices, prepare payment runs, and maintain accurate accounts payable schedules
  • Perform bank, creditor, and debtor reconciliations, resolving discrepancies promptly
  • Support payroll processing and assist with the preparation and submission of all statutory taxes, including PAYE, VAT, UIF, SDL, Corporate Income Tax, and Provisional Tax
  • Maintain organised financial records to ensure audit readiness and compliance with IFRS and GAAP standards

  • Monthly Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting: Compile and summarise accounting data for monthly management reports under the guidance of the Senior Analyst or Finance Manager
  • Budget Monitoring: Update and track expenditure against approved budgets, highlighting variances for review
  • Cash Flow Support: Assist in preparing cash flow summaries and short-term forecasts
  • Compliance Administration: Support the maintenance of compliance documentation including tax, COIDA, CIPC and BBBEE records

  • Quarterly Responsibilities:

  • Data Compilation: Gather financial data for quarterly management reviews and variance analysis
  • Payroll Reporting: Verify payroll reports and ensure alignment with tax and statutory submissions
  • Reconciliation Checks: Support quarterly reconciliations across key balance sheet accounts

  • Annual Responsibilities (Under Supervision):

  • Annual Financial Statement Preparation: Assist in the preparation of Annual Financial Statements (AFS) by gathering, verifying, and reconciling financial information to ensure accurate, complete, and timely reporting in compliance with IFRS and audit requirements
  • Audit Preparation: Assist in preparing for external audits by gathering, verifying, and reconciling financial information, ensuring complete and timely documentation, and supporting the resolution of auditor queries in compliance with IFRS and internal control requirements
  • Regulatory Filings: Support the completion and submission of annual statutory returns and reports
  • Year-End Analysis: Contribute to the analysis of annual expenditure and revenue trends for review by senior management

  • Technology and Systems Support:

  • Assist with maintaining accurate financial records in accounting software (e.g., Xero, Sage, QuickBooks)
  • Support IT asset tracking and record updates in coordination with Operations and IT teams
  • Maintain and update spreadsheets and financial databases with a high level of accuracy

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or currently completing studies)
  • NOTE: THIS IS A FULL TIME POSITION, therefore only Part-Time Students (if still studying) are eligible to apply
  • 0-1 year prior experience in Bookkeeping, Finance Administration, or Audit support (Internship or Part-time)
  • Familiarity with financial reporting processes and month-end cycles is advantageous.
