About the position
Role purpose
The Field Sales Agent is responsible for securing new retail stockists and driving repeat orders for nicotine pouches within an assigned territory. This is a high-activity, on-the-road role focused on both mainstream retailers (Pick n Pay, Spar etc) independent retailers (e.g., spaza, bottle stores, tobacconists, vape shops, forecourt convenience stores, wholesalers).
Key responsibilities
- Retail acquisition: Identify, visit, pitch, and secure new retail stockists in the territory.
- Order conversion: Close first orders, ensure correct SKU mix, and agree reorder triggers (minimum stock / reorder cadence).
- Merchandising execution: Place and maintain merchandising materials (where approved), ensure correct product visibility, pricing display, and stock rotation.
- Reorder and retention: Build a repeat-order base by revisiting active outlets, preventing stock-outs, and managing basic objections/service issues.
- Territory planning: Create and follow an efficient daily route plan; prioritise high-potential outlets and clusters.
- Relationship management: Build strong relationships with owners/managers; act as first-line support for queries, basic training, and product education.
- Pipeline and CRM discipline: Log all visits, outcomes, photos (where required), orders, and next actions in the CRM/field app daily.
- Market intelligence: Report competitor activity (pricing, promos, placement), retailer feedback, and emerging opportunities to the Regional Lead.
- Compliance: Follow company standards and applicable regulations for nicotine products; use approved scripts and do not make prohibited claims.
- Team cadence: Participate in daily/weekly sales huddles, coaching, and ride-alongs; consistently hit activity and performance KPIs.
Success measures (KPIs)
- Visits per day: 20-25 (minimum expectation)
- New outlets opened: weekly target set per territory
- Reorder rate: target % of new outlets reordering within 30-60 days
- Merchandising compliance: % of active outlets meeting visibility standards (photo-verified where used)
- CRM compliance: 100% of visits logged with correct outlet details and outcomes
Qualifications and experience
Minimum
- Matric (Grade 12).
- Valid driver's licence (Code 8) and willingness to travel daily.
- 1-3+ years' experience in field sales (FMCG, beverages, liquor, tobacco/vape, telco field sales, or similar).
- Proven ability to sell into independent retail and close new accounts.
Advantageous
- Existing relationships with retailers in the territory.
- Experience with route selling, merchandising standards, and reorder management.
- Comfortable using CRM/field sales apps on mobile.

- Must comply with reporting requirements and sales governance (no CRM = no commission payout, where policy applies).
