About the position
Experienced Fibre Technician with expertise in fibre installation, fusion splicing, structured cabling, and network infrastructure?
A leading technology solutions company requires an experienced Fibre Technician to support the installation, maintenance, testing, and commissioning of fibre optic and structured cabling infrastructure across various client sites in Cape Town. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality fibre installations, performing fault diagnosis, fusion splicing, and ensuring all network infrastructure is installed in accordance with industry standards
Key Responsibilities:
- Install fibre optic infrastructure for FTTH, FTTB, enterprise, and backbone networks.
- Perform fibre optic cable installation, routing, termination, and commissioning.
- Carry out fusion splicing and fibre jointing to industry standards.
- Conduct OTDR, power meter, and continuity testing.
- Install and maintain structured cabling systems (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, and fibre).
- Install patch panels, cabinets, racks, and network enclosures.
- Diagnose and resolve fibre network faults and connectivity issues.
- Read and interpret network diagrams, cable schedules, and technical drawings.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and quality standards.
- Complete installation reports, test results, and project documentation.
Job Experience & Skills Required / Ideal Candidate Profile:
Education:
- National Diploma or Diploma in Information Technology, Telecommunications, Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.
- CompTIA Network+ (N+) Certification – Required.
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) – Required.
- Certified Fibre Optic Technician (CFOT) – Fibre Optic Association (FOA) or equivalent.
- Certified Premises Cabling Technician (CPCT) – Fibre Optic Association (FOA) or equivalent.
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years' experience as a Fibre Technician.
- Proven experience in fibre installation, fusion splicing, fibre termination, and OTDR testing.
- Strong experience in structured cabling installations.
- Experience working on FTTH, FTTB, enterprise, or backbone fibre projects.
