About the position

We're looking for an experienced Production Manager from a volume production environment. If you are qualified and experienced in Manufacturing and have what it takes to lead a production line of around 50 machines / Operators and come from Automotive Component Manufacturing - we'd like to speak to you!

Our Client is an established manufacturer, a Tier-1 Supplier into the South African Automotive Industry. Your role, in this face-paced environment, will be as follows:

  • Strategic Planning: Developing and implementing strategies to optimize production processes, improve efficiency, reduce costs, and meet quality standards. This may involve setting production targets, defining Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and evaluating overall shop performance.
  • Resource Management: Managing resources including equipment, materials, and personnel. This includes ensuring that the shop has the necessary machinery, tools, and raw materials to meet production requirements, as well as coordinating staffing levels and schedules to ensure smooth operations.
  • Quality Control: Ensuring that all products meet quality standards and specifications. This involves implementing quality control measures, conducting inspections, and addressing any issues related to product quality or non-conformities.
  • Safety and Compliance: Enforcing safety regulations and ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards and guidelines. This includes promoting a culture of safety among shop personnel, conducting safety training, and maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Supervision and Training: Overseeing shop personnel, including machinists, technicians, and support staff. This involves assigning tasks, providing guidance and supervision, conducting performance evaluations, and identifying training needs to enhance the skills of shop employees.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Overseeing maintenance and repair activities for shop equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime. This includes scheduling routine maintenance, troubleshooting equipment issues, and coordinating repairs as needed.
  • Inventory Management: Managing inventory levels of raw materials, tooling, and other supplies to support production requirements while minimizing excess inventory and associated costs. This may involve implementing inventory tracking systems and coordinating with procurement departments.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identifying opportunities for process improvements and implementing initiatives to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and increase productivity. This may involve analyzing production data, soliciting feedback from employees, and implementing best practices.

Requirements

Qualifications / Experience

  • Qualification: Trade OR Diploma in Production or Operations Management
  • A proven track record of ±5 years in Production Management (with ±30 machines / Operators)
  • Experienced in high-volume, repetitive Machining, STRONG Preference for Automotive Components Manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in ISO 9001 standards
