We are a prominent specialist in electrical switchgear assembly, seeking a dynamic and results-driven Factory Manager to lead our manufacturing operations in Kempton Park. About the Role:
Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, the Factory Manager is the linchpin of our production facility. You will be responsible for the entire factory workforce, overseeing all tasks and duties related to manufacturing, from the meticulous management of our stores to ensuring the seamless execution of complex projects. This hands-on leadership role demands a strategic thinker with exceptional problem-solving abilities and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities Will Include:
- Stores Management: Oversee all aspects of stock control, re-ordering, receiving, issuing, and returns, ensuring optimal inventory levels and exceptional housekeeping. Lead annual stock-takes and drive departmental improvements.
- Manufacturing Excellence: Take ownership of projects from engineering through to completion, ensuring adherence to contractual timelines. This includes production planning, assigning projects to supervisors and contractors, managing material issuance, and maintaining updated production records. You'll be the primary point of contact for project-related problem-solving and quality assurance readiness.
- Maintenance & Quality Assurance: Ensure general factory maintenance, along with the upkeep and calibration of QA equipment. Implement and improve our online QA system, monitoring contractor and tester defects, and providing leadership to the QA department.
- Contractor & Team Leadership: Manage contractor workloads, tasks, and hours for invoicing. Provide strong guidance and mentorship to supervisors, draughtsmen, independent contractors, and the QA team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
- System & Process Optimization: Manage the clocking system for payroll accuracy. Ensure layouts are correct and timely. Drive ISO9001 system procedure inputs for stores, manufacturing, and QA, ensuring the maintenance and implementation of these critical processes.
Who We're Looking For:
You are an experienced professional with a proven track record in manufacturing leadership, particularly within an electrical engineering or panel manufacturing environment.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum: National Diploma in Engineering with 5 years of relevant experience.
- Ideal: National Diploma in Engineering, coupled with 10+ years of experience, a Quality Management Course, and a Supervisory Course.
Key Knowledge & Skills:
- Proficiency in MS Office, including Access database development.
- Strong understanding of Electrical Engineering and Electrical Components.
- In-depth knowledge of Panel Manufacturing and Warehousing.
- Familiarity with ISO9001 standards.
- Excellent practical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Strong negotiating ability, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Robust business and financial acumen.
- An integrative team working style, capable of fostering team spirit and effectively interfacing with all levels of employees and contractors.
- Experience with Supervision/Introduction to Management is a minimum, with ideal candidates having Management of Team Leader Training, ISO9001, and Health & Safety training.
Working Hours:
- Monday - Thursday: 07:30 - 17:00
- Friday: 07:30 - 15:00
- Flexibility to work outside normal working hours, including weekends, may be required.
