The Role: Facilities Technical Manager
This role exists to ensure all stores operate safely, efficiently, and without disruption. You will oversee technical maintenance, refrigeration systems, electrical compliance, and store upgrades across a growing retail network. With a mix of hands-on repair work and contractor management, you'll play a critical role in reducing downtime, extending equipment life, and supporting the brand's continued expansion.
Key Responsibilities
- Bring 3 to 5 years of hands-on maintenance experience across electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general repairs
- Conduct routine inspections across all stores to identify faults, risks, and maintenance needs
- Perform repairs directly, including glazing, lighting, signage, and general handyman tasks
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair commercial refrigeration units used for gelato production and storage
- Manage preventative maintenance schedules for all temperature-controlled equipment
- Handle electrical repairs, replacements, and installations within the scope of a wireman's license
- Manage external refrigeration specialists and electricians for larger technical projects
- Oversee store upgrade projects, fit-outs, and refurbishments
- Source, vet, and manage contractors and service providers
- Maintain asset records, warranties, service logs, and inventory of tools and supplies
- Work closely with store managers and the business owner to resolve daily operational issues
About You
- 3 to 5 years of experience in facilities, technical maintenance, or a similar hands-on role
- Valid South African driver's license
- Wireman's license or registered electrical qualification
- Practical experience working with commercial refrigeration systems
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple sites and priorities
- Able to work independently and make sound decisions under pressure
- Experience in retail, hospitality, or food production environments (advantage)
- Exposure to store openings, fit-outs, or contractor management (advantage)
- Proactive, solutions-driven, reliable, and highly organised
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a calm approach during urgent breakdowns
