About the position

Key responsibilities of an extrusion operator:

Machine setup and operation:

• Prepare extrusion machinery for production by selecting appropriate dies, setting temperature controls, and loading raw materials.
• Monitor machine functions during operation, adjusting settings as needed to maintain product quality and consistency.
• Operate auxiliary equipment like grinders, shavers, and take-up reels.

Quality control:

• Regularly inspect extruded products to ensure they meet specifications regarding size, thickness, and appearance.
• Identify and troubleshoot quality issues, making adjustments to machine parameters as necessary.
• Conduct testing and sampling to verify product quality.

Maintenance and troubleshooting:

• Perform routine cleaning and lubrication of machinery to prevent malfunctions.
• Identify and report any equipment malfunctions or potential safety hazards.
• Perform basic repairs or replacements of worn components as needed.

Documentation and record keeping:

• Maintain production logs, including machine settings, material usage, and quality inspection results.
• Follow established safety protocols and procedures.

- Grade 12 is essential
- Strong attention to detail and quality control skills
- Basic math skills to calculate production rates and material usage
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Physical ability to lift heavy materials and stand for extended periods
- Machine operating experience
- A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required.
- Vocational programs in manufacturing or plastics technology can provide valuable training and skills.
- Prior experience in a manufacturing environment, especially with machine operation, can be beneficial.
