About the position

Job Title: Head of Environment Safety & Health (ESH)

Location: Zambia (Open to Local Candidates or Expats with African Experience)

 

A mining entity based in Zambia, is actively seeking a seasoned professional to fill the role of Head of Environment Safety & Health (ESH). The ideal candidate should possess a minimum of 10 years of work experience, including at least a decade in a management role within health and safety, specifically in a mining underground environment.

 

In this pivotal role, the selected candidate will lead and coordinate safety, health, and environmental initiatives at the mine. Responsible for managing overall safety, health, and environmental systems, the Head of ESH will ensure strict compliance with legal requirements to minimize pure risk, litigation exposure, and adverse publicity. Previous expat work experience, particularly in Zambia, is a prerequisite for consideration.  Zambian Locals & Expats with experience in Zambia will be considered.

Qualifications/Experience:

• ND/BTech in Safety Management or related Environmental/Risk Management field.
• Safety Certifications as required
• Minimum of 10 years of management experience within Health & Safety in a mining underground environment.
• Previous expat work experience, specifically in Africa, is essential.

Responsibilities:

• Manage and coordinate comprehensive safety, health, and environmental initiatives at the mine.
• Ensure and assure SHE legal compliance to minimize pure risk, litigation exposure, and adverse publicity.
• Provide strategic leadership in the development and implementation of safety and environmental policies.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance safety culture and minimize potential risks.
• Conduct regular audits to assess compliance with safety and environmental standards.
• Lead incident investigations, identify root causes, and implement corrective measures.
• Develop and deliver training programs to promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility.
