About the position

The City is committed to establishing, maintaining and improving services to informal households, helping individuals and families meet their basic needs. We also have several housing programmes which are in place to help South Africans rent or own safe formal housing. We provide free basic water, sanitation, and electricity to informal settlements all around Cape Town.

Strategic ability, sound financial acumen and an innovative, influential and collaborative approach are fundamental, as is expert knowledge, understanding and vision of the evolving Human Settlements environment.

Purpose/Strategic intent:
To lead, direct and manage the directorate who plans for and provides human settlements, informal settlements and backyarders with cost effective, socially responsible and environmentally sound services in the Cape Town metropole.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of a Post Graduate or NQF Level 8 qualification relevant to the functional focus of the position
  • At least 5 years' experience at a senior managerial level within a large, complex and diverse environment
  • Demonstrated exceptional transformational leadership ability with capacity for innovation, and an influential and collaborative approach to developing and executing strategy
  • Possession of the MFMA Minimum Competency training is essential or alternatively, the successful candidate will be expected to attain such within 18 months after appointment
  • Appointment will be subjected to security vetting
  • Advanced knowledge of relevant policies and legislation
  • Institutional Government systems, Audit and Risk management and Performance management
  • Budgetary and financial management
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills
  • Strong people management and leadership skills
