About the position
We are looking for an Infrastructure Engineer at Entry level to join our Infrastructure Engineering team.
The role focuses on supporting and maintaining highly available, secure and resilient Linux solutions for critical production environments and applications. You will work primarily with Linux operating systems, automation, configuration management, scripting and infrastructure tooling. The role provides an opportunity to develop your technical expertise while working alongside experienced infrastructure, cloud, security and application teams.
The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in Linux and automation, a willingness to learn, and an interest in infrastructure engineering, DevOps and cloud technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain Linux client platforms across office and production environments.
- Support the implementation and continuous improvement of Linux platform functionality based on business and operational requirements.
- Develop and maintain Linux base images, software packages and configuration standards.
- Ensure Linux platforms comply with security, hardening and regulatory requirements.
- Perform vulnerability assessments and assist with implementing remediation activities.
- Install, configure, administer and support Linux systems across physical, virtual and cloud environments, including AWS.
- Monitor system performance and availability and assist with troubleshooting infrastructure issues.
- Automate deployment, configuration and operational processes using appropriate automation tools.
- Develop and maintain scripts to improve infrastructure efficiency and reliability.
- Manage Linux system updates, patches and lifecycle activities.
- Support Incident, Problem and Change Management processes for dedicated IT services.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, knowledge base articles, CMDB records and operational procedures.
- Ensure adherence to operational standards, security policies and compliance requirements.
- Track Jira user stories and operational tasks and ensure activities are delivered within agreed timelines.
- Work within an Agile environment and collaborate with infrastructure, cloud, security and application teams.
- Participate in operational meetings and contribute to continuous service improvement initiatives.
- Participate in on call support and weekend maintenance activities when required.
RequirementsEssential Skills
- Strong experience with Unix and Linux operating systems, particularly Ubuntu, Red Hat and SUSE.
- Strong experience with Ansible Automation and Ansible Tower.
- Strong scripting experience using Bash, Perl or Python.
- Strong experience with GitHub and GitOps repositories.
- Knowledge of system monitoring tools such as Grafana or similar platforms.
- Knowledge of backup solutions.
- Understanding of secure coding practices and Configuration as Code.
- Solid understanding of networking concepts including DNS, DHCP, SSH and TCP/IP.
- Understanding of proxy configuration.
Advantageous Skills
- Linux or infrastructure certifications such as RHCSA, RHCA or SUSE certifications.
- Experience with Veritas Infoscale or similar High Availability technologies.
- Knowledge of Rudder or similar configuration management platforms.
- Experience working within an Agile environment.
- Knowledge of virtualisation technologies such as VMware.
- Knowledge of Private Cloud solutions.
- Experience with Windows Server.
- Experience with Dynatrace or Grafana.
- Knowledge of Splunk.
- Experience with containerisation technologies such as Podman, Docker, Kubernetes or OpenShift.
- Basic understanding of ITIL principles.
- Knowledge of Problem, Incident and Change Management processes.
- Experience with ServiceNow and related IT service management processes.
- Experience with Red Hat Satellite.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree or relevant qualification in Information Systems, Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Minimum of 2 years IT operations experience.
- Minimum of 2 years configuration management and automation experience.
- Strong Linux administration experience, particularly with RHEL, Ubuntu or SLES.
- Strong coding and scripting experience, particularly Bash, Python or PowerShell.
- Experience with cloud technologies such as AWS or Azure.
- Strong understanding of version control systems, particularly GitHub.
- ServiceNow experience would be advantageous.
- Dynatrace experience would be advantageous.
- Red Hat Satellite experience would be advantageous.
- Linux certification such as RHCSA would be advantageous.
- Ansible certification such as RHCE would be advantageous.
