About the position
Background:
- The Perinatal HIV Research Unit (Wits PHRU) was established in 1996
- The Perinatal HIV Research Unit has been involved in research, training, policy formation, and advocacy in issues concerning HIV-positive women and their children
- In recent years, the work of the unit has expanded beyond the original focus of mother-to-child transmission of HIV
Main purpose of the job:
- To assist the registered nurse/s in performance of their duties ensuring GCP and SOP adherence
Location:
- PHRU, Chris Hani Baragwanath New Nurses Home, Soweto
Key performance areas:
- Participant identification, screening, enrolment and follow ups
- Ensure that screening, consenting and enrolment of participants take place in line with project protocol as and when required
- Record vital signs and observations of participant in the source document / Case Referral Form for each visiting participant
- Conduct Phlebotomy according to protocol (study specific)
- Collect swabs, sputum and urine according to protocol
- Provision or organise results for the participants
- HIV pre- and post-test counselling as and when required
- Obtain participants investigative results/outcome
- Follow participant reimbursement as per SOP
- Perform household visits when required
- Other duties required to conduct all study activities when requested
- Complete Case Referral Form at the time of participant visit for each participant visit
- Track all “lost to follow ups” participants by means of post, telephone or home visit
- Ensure that Case Referral Forms are filed in participant files on a daily basis
- Log any lab results onto the system once in receipt thereof on study specific system on a daily basis
- Review case report forms and source documentation on a daily basis to ensure the forms are completed correctly
- Perform internal quality control checks of completed data by means of checking and completing data clarification forms submitted by the laboratory and data quality reports
- Perform internal quality control checks as per the study data and clinical quality management plan
- Assist in reviewing the approved for relevance as per data and clinical quality management plan
- Assist with the QC of study files
- Ensure filing is up to date and other administrative tasks
- Take ownership and accountability for tasks & activities
- Follow through to ensure that quality and productivity standards of own work are consistently and accurately maintained
- Inform relevant parties in the event of tasks or deadlines not met and provides appropriate means of resolution Support and drives the business’ core values

Required minimum education and training:
- Grade 12
- Certificate as an Enrolled Nurse
Professional Body Registration:
- South African Nursing Council or any other relevant
Required minimum work experience:
- At least 2 years’ experience as an Enrolled Nurse
