The SAMRC/Wits Rural Public Health and Health Transitions Research Unit (Agincourt) is an exceptional health and population research centre in the Wits School of Public Health
The Unit supports a major research infrastructure underpinned by a health and socio-demographic surveillance system (HDSS), a form of longitudinal population registration, covering the Agincourt sub-district of rural Mpumalanga Province that has been in operation since 1992 coupled with observational and intervention studies along the life course
As part of ongoing core and nested work, the Unit seeks to appoint Qualified Enrolled Nurse to participate in several vital roles, who will assist in realising the vision of the Unit, by practical participating in HAALSA - SAMRC Study
The appointed individuals will be based at the main office and report directly to the Project Manager
Main purpose of the job:
- To participate in several vital roles such as participant recruitment, and assist in realising the vision of the Unit
Location:
- MRC/Wits Rural Health and Health Transitions Research Unit (Agincourt)
Key performance areas:
- Conduct household visits for Echo sub-study participants
- Recruit study participants for the portable MRI study
- Consent study participants into the study
- Perform echocardiograms on study participants
- Adhere to SOPs
- Perform eligibility checks for study participants
- Maintaining a good working relationship with study participants
- Ability to maintain participants’ confidentiality both on and off duty
- Scheduling of appointments
- Present daily progress reports to Field Supervisor and Project Manager
- Respond and resolve data queries as specified by the Project Manager
- Communicate routinely with the Project Manager and Research Manager
- Perform fieldwork activities as required
Required minimum education and training:
- Diploma in General Nursing
- Registered with The South African Nursing Council (SANC)
Required minimum work experience:
- Minimum 2 years relevant nursing experience
- At least 1 years’ experience in a research environment
Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities:
- Must possess strong organizational skills
- Good knowledge of local villages in the study site
- Previous experience using electronic data collection tools is essential
- Must be self-motivated, able to work independently and as a member of a team
- Ability to multi-task and make decisions independently
