About the position
Background:
- The Perinatal HIV Research Unit (Wits PHRU) was established in 1996
- The Perinatal HIV Research Unit has been involved in research, training, policy formation, and advocacy in issues concerning HIV-positive women and their children
- In recent years, the work of the unit has expanded beyond the original focus of mother-to-child transmission of HIV
Main purpose of the job:
- Conduct clinical trial duties that include Counselling (HCT, contraception, adherence), Phlebotomy and Clinic Inventory Management
Location:
- PHRU, Chris Hani Baragwanath New Nurses Home, Soweto
Key performance areas:
- Conduct study related duties as specified by the protocol
- Ensuring adherence to study specific standard operating procedures
- Liaise with the Study Coordinator and Principal Investigator to ensure clinic services operate optimally
- Phlebotomy and related tasks
- HCT, contraceptive and study medication adherence counselling
- Medication administration (including Intravenous and Intramuscular routes)
- Review clinical data and complete the case report forms
- Filing of results and any other study related documents in the relevant assigned place
- Ensure that study materials (printing of CRFs etc.) are always available on site
Required minimum education and training:
- Matric
- Qualified as an Enrolled Nurse
- GCP Certification or TRREE Certification
- Drivers Licence
Professional Body Registration:
- South African Nursing Council or any other relevant
Required minimum work experience:
- 2 years’ experience in a research field
Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities:
- Good Clinical Practice/Human Subject Protection Certification advantageous
- Ability to lead and work independently as well as be part of a multidisciplinary team
- Flexibility to adapt to changes in study requirements
- Empathetic towards people living with HIV/AIDS
- Ability to speak local languages
- Computer literacy
- Willingness to learn
- It is expected that s/he will apply consistent adherence to research and GCP practices
- Willing to work overtime if required
