About the position

1. MAIN PURPOSE The primary purpose of this position is to lead and control production line maintenance staff within the set Company’s quality, targets, budgets and laid down safety standards. The incumbent will be responsible to ensure that production machinery is maintained at maximum efficiency. Conduct discipline and grievance meetings. Manage industrial relations in a unionized environment. Ensure effective communication. Identify and eliminate sources of waste. Maintain excellent housekeeping practices. Proactively address maintenance problems and ensure breakdowns are minimized and the planned maintenance program is followed.

   1. QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
   1.1. Minimum qualification required:
   - Qualified Fitter & Turner (Trade Test Certificate)
   - Planning & Organizing skills to achieve production objectives timeously on a daily basis.
   
   1.2. Business skills:
   - Knowledge of ISO Quality Systems
   - Knowledge and experience of working according to NOSA safety standards
   - Understand World Class Manufacturing practices
   - Knowledge of and exposure to the FMCG

   2. KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
   Production Machinery
   
   - Ensure that all production machinery is kept to peak performance on the production line
   - Being on call from production supervision.
   - Immediately investigating faults and motivating maintenance personnel so as to expedite repairs.
   - Returning machines to production line with minimum delays.
   
   Plant Maintenance
   - Ensure that planned maintenance is carried out
   - Inspecting all machinery at regular intervals, using check lists etc.
   - Carrying out planned maintenance as scheduled.
   - The systematic overhauling of machines and equipment when due.
   - By making sure that spares and materials are available and drawn from the stores being overhauling is commenced. Machine Overhaul
   - Ensure that machinery overhauled in the maintenance workshop is done efficiently and thoroughly
   - Checking on quality of work being carried out.
   - Checking all settings and test run machines.
   
   Budget
   - Keep within the limits of the maintenance materials budget
   - Seeing that all spares and materials are used correctly.
   - Salvaging and repairing spares required for maintenance.

   - Poor availability and reliability of plant
   - Inaccuracies in budget and expenditure

   - Poor spares management
   
   4. LEVEL OF DECISION MAKING
   - Stop faulty production machines where a fault could cause injury to persons, serious damage to quality (i.e. no wax) and damage to machine/equipment.
   - Authorise overtime
   - Authorize Stores Requisitions
   
   5.CONTROL INFORMATION AND CHECKS
   - Budgets / man hours and overtime.
   - Quality Control Reports.
   - Departmental Efficiency and Cost Reports.
   - Housekeeping, Safety and Accident Reports.
   - Scheduled maintenance inspection reports.
   - Down Time Reports
   - Spares/Material Procurement Procedures.
   - Disciplinary Policies and Procedures.
   - Standards relating to Process Control Methods and Specifications.
   - ISO 9001: 2008 Policy and Procedure Manuals.
   - ISO 9001: 2008 Work Instructions/Statistical Process Control Procedures.
