Our client is an established manufacturing organisation seeking an experienced General Manager to take overall operational responsibility for two manufacturing sites. The successful candidate will provide strategic and operational leadership, ensuring both sites achieve their safety, quality, service, cost and people objectives while maintaining strong governance and operational discipline.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership and operational accountability for both manufacturing sites, ensuring production plans, quality standards, service levels, cost targets and operational objectives are achieved.
- Drive manufacturing performance through effective production planning, plant utilisation, OEE, yield improvement, waste reduction, maintenance strategy, continuous improvement and standardisation of operating procedures.
- Lead and develop site management teams while ensuring strong SHEQ compliance, labour relations, financial control, risk management, governance and effective stakeholder relationships across both operations.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering, Operations Management, Industrial Management or a related field – essential.
- Minimum 8–10 years' manufacturing or operations experience, including at least 4–5 years in a senior Plant Management or General Management role.
- Proven experience managing multiple manufacturing sites or business units concurrently.
- Strong experience in production management, cost control, SHEQ management and people leadership within a unionised manufacturing environment.
- Experience within FMCG, process manufacturing or a similarly regulated and safety-critical manufacturing environment.
- Strong working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, environmental legislation and South African labour relations legislation.
- Sound financial and commercial understanding, including budgeting, cost control and capital investment.
- Knowledge of production planning, Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel regularly between the two sites.

- Strong strategic and operational leadership with excellent decision-making and problem-solving ability.
- Strong financial, analytical and commercial acumen.
- Excellent communication, people management and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities across multiple manufacturing sites.
- Strong understanding of SHEQ, governance, compliance and operational risk.
- Ability to drive accountability, continuous improvement and cross-site collaboration.
- High level of integrity, professionalism and sound judgement.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for a senior manufacturing leader who has demonstrated experience managing complex operations and leading teams across multiple sites. The successful candidate must be commercially minded, operationally hands-on and able to balance production performance, safety, quality, cost and people objectives.
Experience in a unionised manufacturing environment and the ability to work effectively with senior management, employees, unions, suppliers, regulators and other stakeholders will be highly advantageous.
