About the position
An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic Engineering Buyer to join this fast paced company in the FMCG space. This role is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procure engineering spares, equipment, and technical services for the Manufacturing environment, ensuring plant reliability, cost efficiency, and supplier performance while complying with company policies and safety standards. Source and purchase engineering spares, components, and services (mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, utilities).
Obtain and compare quotes, evaluate total cost of ownership, and raise purchase orders in line with procurement policies.
Develop and maintain an approved supplier base for critical engineering items.
Drive cost savings through alternative sourcing, volume leverage, and standardisation.
Negotiate pricing, payment terms, lead times, and warranties with supplier.
Monitor supplier performance (OTIF, quality, service levels) and address non-performance.
Work closely with Engineering and manage Stores to maintain optimal stock levels of critical spares.
Support creation and maintenance of item master data (descriptions, part numbers, min/max levels, criticality).
Ensure adherence to procurement policies, ethical standards, and SHEQ requirements.
Support capex projects with RFQs, supplier sourcing, and commercial evaluation.
Assist with trials of new parts, materials, or technologies.
Use ERP / CMMS systems (Syspro, Oracle, Pragma, etc.) to manage requisitions, POs, and receipts.
Maintain accurate records and documentation (contracts, price lists, supplier info).
Prepare reports on spend, savings, supplier performance, and key KPIs
Build strong relationships with OEMs, local and international suppliers.
Coordinate supplier visits, technical presentations, and trials when required.
Develop and maintain an approved supplier base for critical engineering items.
Drive cost savings through alternative sourcing, volume leverage, and standardisation.
Support creation and maintenance of item master data (descriptions, part numbers, min/max levels, criticality).
Reduce obsolete and slow moving stock through rationalisation and standardisation.
Monitor stock-outs and expedite orders to prevent production downtime.
National Diploma or Degree in Supply Chain, Procurement, Engineering, or related Field.
3 - 5 year's experience as an Engineering Buyer in an FMCG, Manufacturing, or Industrial environment.
Trade test or strong technical background( mechanical/ Electrical/ Instrumentation will be advantageous.
