The Role

We are seeking to engage an Experienced Geotechnical Engineer / Engineering Geologist, with extensive experience in site investigation, to join our Geotech Team in Pretoria. In this role, you'll be getting out on the field, conducting geotechnical site investigations, testing, data logging and preparing technical reports while collaborating with internal stakeholders across multiple disciplines including tunnels, roads, rail, dams and hydropower, supporting other streams in the delivery of high standard designs, verification and onsite supervision

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Carrying out detailed design to a high standard and tight timeframes for projects of reasonable complexity
  • Assisting more senior Engineers with the analysis of information, production of designs and computations
  • Identifying sources of advice for design proposals with non-standard engineering requirements
  • Communicating openly and regularly with other team members and stakeholders
  • Liaising with other design disciplines to develop and maintain design coordination
  • Producing documentation reports, proposals and specifications to meet client requirements for projects of reasonable complexity
  • Exercising initiative in the workplace ensuring completion of quality tasks on time and to budget
  • Researching for alternative solutions via Internet and library resources to assist in ensuring that solutions both make commercial sense and meet the clients requirements
  • Assuming responsibility for the accuracy and correctness of calculations prepared for design
  • Understanding and contributing to the achievement of the team business plan
  • Applying a deeper understanding of Engineering principles to devise and deliver new approaches in order to solve more complex problems
  • Assisting in identifying professional risks, statutory responsibilities, liabilities and hazards
  • Using without assistance basic appropriate engineering tools and techniques
  • Identifying opportunities for improvement through a multi-disciplined approach
  • Writing functional specifications to the selected standard and design specifications
  • Supporting other streams in the delivery of high standard designs, verification and onsite supervision
  • Supervision of drawing production for assigned tasks is undertaken in accordance with SMEC procedures as appropriate
  • Contributing to and participating in project planning to achieve prescribed objectives
  • Liaising with clients and appropriate stakeholders to ascertain information required to undertake design and documentation tasks
  • Carrying out design tasks as directed to meet agreed outcomes and cost structure
  • Adhering to the document management process
  • Undertaking self-checking and review of own design outputs against requirements and making corrections and improvements identified
  • Manage time effectively in order to complete tasks on time

About You

Suitable applicants will be/have:

  • Tertiary Qualification in Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years relevant industry experience, ideally within a consultancy
  • Ability to interpret and communicate information of a more complex nature
  • Client service orientation
  • Ability to provide some guidance to more junior team members
  • Project management skills
  • Familiar with relevant Australian Standards and specifications
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively within a diverse and multi-disciplinary environment
  • Ability to apply new knowledge
  • Skills in undertaking a co-operative and flexible work style to work in a team environment
  • Skills in managing competing priorities and working under pressure
  • Computer literacy with proficiency in a variety of computer programs
