The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and availability of heavy-duty equipment through advanced troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and technical problem-solving. This role requires a highly experienced professional with strong diesel engine expertise, the ability to work independently in the field, and the capability to support customers and internal teams across various locations.
Location: JHB, Gauteng
Minimum Requirements:
- Recognised technical qualification in Diesel Mechanics, Heavy Equipment Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Qualified Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic (trade qualification preferred).
- Additional OEM training or specialist certifications in diesel engines, hydraulics, electronics, or heavy machinery will be advantageous.
- 10–15 years’ experience working with heavy equipment machinery.
- Extensive experience in heavy-duty diesel engines, mechanical systems, and field service environments.
- Proven experience diagnosing and repairing complex machinery faults.
- Experience working with rail maintenance equipment, construction machinery, mining equipment, or similar heavy industrial machinery would be advantageous.
- Previous experience in a senior technician, specialist, supervisory, or technical leadership role.
- Must have a valid code 8 Driver's License and be willing to travel throughout South Africa.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Expertise & Equipment Support
- Provide specialist technical support on heavy equipment machinery, including diesel engines, hydraulic systems, mechanical systems, and related components.
- Diagnose, repair, overhaul, and maintain heavy-duty diesel engines and associated equipment systems.
- Perform advanced fault-finding using diagnostic equipment, technical manuals, and engineering documentation.
- Identify recurring mechanical issues and recommend corrective actions to improve equipment reliability.
- Provide technical guidance and support to field technicians, customers, and internal stakeholders.
- Assist with commissioning, servicing, and troubleshooting of specialised machinery.
Maintenance & Repairs
- Conduct preventative, corrective, and predictive maintenance on heavy machinery.
- Carry out inspections, testing, repairs, and component replacements according to manufacturer specifications.
- Ensure equipment operates safely, efficiently, and within required performance standards.
- Maintain accurate service reports, technical documentation, and repair records.
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards.
Field Service & Travel Requirements
- Provide on-site technical assistance at customer locations throughout South Africa and potentially neighbouring regions.
- Travel extensively as required to support operational needs, breakdowns, installations, and technical interventions.
- Work independently in remote locations and challenging environments.
- Provide professional customer support while representing the company’s technical standards and reputation.
Leadership & Management Responsibilities
- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior technicians and field personnel.
- Support the Technical Manager with technical planning, problem-solving, and operational improvements.
- Assist in developing best practices, maintenance strategies, and technical procedures.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
