About the position
Automotive Engineering Machinist
- Perform precision machining on engine components, including cylinder heads, blocks, crankshafts, and connecting rods.
- Operate and maintain machining equipment such as boring mills, surface grinders, honing machines, and lathes.
- Conduct engine component reconditioning and ensure all work meets manufacturer and industry standards.
- Assemble and fit engine components according to OEM specifications.
- Conduct diagnostic inspections on engine components to identify defects or excessive wear.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
- Work closely with engine rebuilders and mechanics to ensure quality control.
- Maintain workshop safety, cleanliness, and compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.
Engine Assembler – Diesel Engines
- Assemble, disassemble, and rebuild diesel engines according to manufacturer specifications.
- Conduct inspections on components and identify defects or required modifications.
- Ensure all components are correctly installed, aligned, and meet quality control standards.
- Work from technical drawings, blueprints, and manuals to ensure precision assembly.
- Perform diagnostic tests to confirm proper engine function before final delivery.
- Maintain accurate documentation of work completed, including measurements and specifications.
- Follow strict safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized workspace.
Minimum Requirements:
Engine Assembler – Diesel Engines
- Trade Test Certificate in Diesel Mechanic, Automotive Machinist, or a related field.
- N2 Trade-Related Subjects or a minimum of 5 years' experience as a qualified Artisan.
- Minimum 5 years of experience specifically in diesel engine assembly.
- Proficiency in Afrikaans & English (spoken and written).
- Must reside in Kimberley or be willing to relocate.
- Strong hands-on experience with Deutz, Cummins, John Deere, Perkins, and CAT engines.
- Ability to diagnose mechanical faults and perform quality control assessments.
- Knowledge of mining and heavy-duty vehicle diesel engines.
- Understanding of hydraulics and electrical components in diesel engines (advantageous).
- Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently.
Automotive Engineering Machinist
- Red Seal Qualification in Diesel Mechanic, Automotive Machinist, or a similar trade.
- 2-5 years' experience in an automotive engineering workshop.
- Strong technical knowledge of diesel engine machining and reconditioning.
- Must reside in Kimberley or Pretoria (depending on location) or be willing to relocate.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and engineering specifications.
- Experience with heavy-duty diesel engines for mining and construction equipment.
- Proficiency with measuring tools (e.g., micrometers, dial indicators, bore gauges).
- Hands-on experience with boring, honing, grinding, and resurfacing machinery.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
