About the position
Postion Summary:
iThemba LABS seeks to appoint an Electronics Technician who will provide support to the operations, maintenance and upgrades of electronic systems within the Tandem and AMS facility.
The incumbent will ensure the high reliability, safety and performance of electronic systems in support of accelerator-based research.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement timely repairs or substitutions to ensure a stable and uninterrupted beam supply
- Perform daily operational control of accelerator electronic systems and equipment to ensure continuous and stable operation
- Conduct routine and corrective maintenance on accelerator electronic systems to reduce downtime and ensure system integrity
- Conduct precise calibration of instrumentation and control systems or related systems
- Fault finding to component level and fixing of interface/control electronics
- Breakdown repairs of power supplies
- Contribute to the design and development of electronic circuits, including prototyping using breadboards and Veroboard's
- Maintain comprehensive records of maintenance activities and system modifications to support traceability and improvement
- Maintenance and repair of all the electronics systems supporting the operation of the research facility
- Construction of electronics modules
- Installations of electronics equipment
- Provide regular updated reports on control system performance and instrumentation requirements
Key Requirements:
Qualification:
- BTech Engineering (Electronics/Electrical)
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years' experience in electronic or electrical engineering
- Minimum of 3 years exposure to a similar technologically demanding research environment
- Experience in heavy and light current electronics
- Experience in interpreting electrical drawings, control systems and schematics
Knowledge:
- Proficiency in using electronics equipment
- Practical knowledge of light current and heavy current electronics
- Analogue and digital electronics
- High voltage and high current power supplies
- Maintenance, calibration and fault diagnosis techniques
- PLC and Fieldbus devices
- PCB soldering, testing and installation
