About the position

Postion Summary:
iThemba LABS is seeking an experienced electronics engineer for its Accelerator Operations and Technical Support department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Designing and developing electronic control, motion control and safety interlocking systemsPlanning, installing and commission the assembling, installation, testing and commissioning of projectsInterfacing of electronic systems
  • Maintenance of accelerator and other electronic systemsOversee and assist with the fault repairs during operationInitiating the manufacturing of components and sub-assembliesInteracting with users to identify and solve problemsTraining and mentoring end-users to operating equipment and softwareWriting up specification of programsCompiling management progress reports and standard operating procedures (SOP)

Minimum Qualification:
  • Bachelors Degree / Advanced Diploma / NQF 7

Minimum Experience:
  • 5-5 years
  • BEng/BTech (Electronics Engineering/Mechatronics) or equivalent

Experience:
  • 5 years’ experience with design in instrumentation and controls systems, graphical user interfaces, embedded software and multilayer PCBsGeneral understanding of particle accelerators and related physics in a research environment
  • Control system and instrumentation designs Basic PLC programmingEPICS programming

Knowledge:
  • Hardware design skillsProgramming in C and Python in Linux environmentExperience in client/server-based systemsExperience in interfacing/integration of electronicsExperience in maintenance of electronic systemsExperience in PCB and embedded software design (Altium)Coordinating the assembling, installation, testing and commissioning of projects
