About the position

Postion Summary:
iThemba LABS is seeking to appoint an Electronics Technician to join its Electronic Engineering division within the Research and Development Technical Support department.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the design and development, maintenance, electronic systems and instrumentation.

The incumbent will be responsible for contributing to the development and upkeep of critical electronic systems that are essential for nuclear physics experiments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply expertise in control system design to control research infrastructure
  • Apply skills in programming and coding skills in C++, Java, Python
  • Maintenance of existing systems to optimize automation and control
  • Work closely with internal scientific staff and external scientific users
  • Maintenance, Fault finding and repair to instrumentation and control systems
  • Maintain and update documents and records for designs and instrumentation
  • Consult with users on requirements for approved projects and possible future experiments
  • Provide regular updated reports on control system performance and instrumentation requirements

Key Requirements:

Qualification:

  • National Diploma in Electronic Engineering

Experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years practical experience in electronics environment
  • Expertise in Electronic Support
  • Expertise in Software Programming
  • Experience in maintenance of Instrumentation/Electronics

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of Graphical User Interfaces and Human Machine Interfacing
  • Digital electronics
  • PLC, Fieldbus devices
  • Microprocessors
