Electromechanical / Electrical Technician - International Opportunity in Belgium
Our client in the Manufacturing sector is seeking a highly skilled South African Electromechanical Technician to join their world-class production environment based in Belgium. This role is ideal for a technically strong professional who thrives in fast-paced industrial settings and is passionate about troubleshooting, continuous improvement, and driving machinery performance. The successful candidate will ensure the reliability, efficiency, and safety of production equipment while contributing to process optimisation and the execution of small projects. The position reports directly to the Shift Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct preventive and corrective electromechanical maintenance on production machinery, infrastructure, and utilities to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime.
- Diagnose complex faults using mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic expertise, providing both immediate and long-term solutions.
- Independently interpret technical drawings, schematics, and documentation to resolve issues efficiently.
- Perform mechanical assembly, disassembly, adjustments, and overhauls on specialised components and installations.
- Maintain and troubleshoot hydraulic, pneumatic, and fine mechanical systems, escalating only highly complex issues to senior colleagues when required.
- Assess equipment condition while machines are operational, identifying wear, malfunctions, or risks, and implementing corrective actions.
- Participate in improvement initiatives by analysing production installations and proposing feasible enhancements.
- Lead or contribute to small technical projects and collaborate with more experienced colleagues on larger initiatives.
- Supervise and train junior technicians or external service providers to ensure quality and safety standards are upheld.
- Provide technical support to production teams and operators, ensuring safe, efficient, and continuous production.
- Conduct parameterisation and basic programming of control technologies, including PLCs, smart sensors, and frequency drives.
- Ensure strict adherence to safety, environmental, quality, and housekeeping standards in alignment with Zero-Harm principles.
Experience:
- 4-5 years' experience in industrial or manufacturing maintenance within a high-volume production environment.
- Proven ability in troubleshooting both electrical and mechanical systems, including high/low current, digital control systems, drives, automation processes, pneumatics, hydraulics, and vacuum technology.
- Experience working autonomously under high workload conditions, with strong problem-solving capability and sound judgement.
- Practical exposure to using diagnostic tools such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, insulation testers, current clamps, mechanical tools, and precision measuring equipment.
- Working knowledge of PLC systems (basic programming and parameterisation).
- Ability to manage small technical projects and guide less experienced technicians.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a structured team environment.
Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Electromechanics or Electrical Engineering (essential).
- Internal technical training of 1-2 years is advantageous.
- Proficiency in PC-based applications, diagnostic software, and PLC programming tools.
- Knowledge of additional European languages is an advantage.
- Willingness to work a rotating shift system and relocate to Belgium. The company will arrange the necessary visa.
