About the position
We are seeking a highly experienced, qualified, and technically skilled Electrician to assume the role of Technical Team Lead: Correctives. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team addressing corrective maintenance issues in a high-demand, mission-critical data centre environment. This is a dynamic, fast-paced role involving standby duties after hours.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise 2–4 technicians to resolve client-reported faults and corrective issues.
- Manage service call lifecycle from logging to resolution, documentation, and sign-off.
- Perform on-site fault finding; escalate complex issues when necessary.
- Escalate recurring faults for long-term client resolution.
- Ensure compliance with job scope, safety standards, and accurate invoicing.
- Maintain professional communication via email, WhatsApp, and in person.
- Support site work to ensure corrective tasks are properly completed.
- Conduct quality assurance inspections 3 days per week.
- Approve technical completions and documentation.
- Enforce team adherence to safety and quality standards.
- Submit weekly schedules, reports, and performance metrics.
- Availability for weekend and after-hours work.
- Travel to various Cape Town metro sites required.
- Physically fit to work in confined spaces or under raised floors.
Knowledge & Competencies:
- Solid knowledge of HVAC, CRAC systems, and data centre environments.
- Skilled in diesel generators, UPS, and battery backup systems.
- Proficient with electrical components, SLDs, and DBs.
- Familiar with BMS systems and remote monitoring protocols.
- Ability to interpret technical documents and as-built drawings.
- Proficient in MS Excel and Outlook.
- Strong verbal and written communication.
- Calm and decisive under pressure.
- Excellent leadership, planning, and coordination.
- Client-focused with a problem-solving approach.
Experience:
- 5+ years as a qualified electrician.
- 3+ years in data centres (advantageous).
- Proven experience managing field/maintenance teams.
- Strong in diagnostics and corrective maintenance of critical systems.
- SLA-driven work experience and compliance reporting.
- Experience in technical client communications.
Qualification:
- Red Seal Trade-Tested Electrician (essential).
- Valid driver’s license (essential).
- First Aid and Health & Safety certifications (advantageous).
- HVAC/Data Centre certification (beneficial).
