About the position

Upington Operations Centre invites applications from qualifying and interested candidates who will be responsible to ensure safe, reliable and stable electrical and mechanical equipment and systems maintenance in the role of an Electrician. This position is a one-year contract.

The prospective applicant should have the following:

• Matric certificate, N3 or equivalent qualification. Passed Electrical Trade Test and in possession of a valid three phase Wireman's license.
• 2 years relevant electrical, HVAC and STG experience
• A valid code EB driver's license

Job description

• Gas and Arc Welding
• Primarily involved in in the ongoing technical maintenance Electrical equipment to support the of broadcast signal distribution facilities comprising of transmitting systems and supporting infrastructure to appropriate technical standards
• Climb masts up to 300m
• Control panels
• Drive long distances, work long hours and away from home when required
• Perform standby duties on a rotation basis and be available for call outs in the event of emergencies
• Be self-motivated, perform under pressure and take responsibility for his/her career development within Sentech
• NB, Applicant must be willing to take medical examination as an inherent requirement of this position.

Knowledge of:

• Theoretical knowledge of air - conditioning and standby generators
• Knowledge of Plant Maintenance and Installations

Functional/Technical competencies required:

Electrical competency
Knowledge and understanding of Electrical infrastructure; battery systems; standby systems; earthling systems; sub stations and high and low voltage reticulation.

Mechanical competency
Knowledge and understanding of operation and control of standby generators; heating and ventilation systems; air conditioning systems and fire systems.

Maintenance competence
Preventative and corrective maintenance on electric, mechanical and support equipment. Ability to use hand and power tools safely and correctly.

Risk Management
Knowledge and understanding of Risk Management processes, risk analysis, risk control, risk financing, Enterprise Risk Management, Insurance and Claims Management. Knowledge, understanding of and adherence to relevant legislation, regulations, company policies and procedures.

Health and Safety
Knowledge and understanding of relevant Health and Safety legislation, regulations and company policies and procedures. Continuous development of specialist knowledge. Build a culture of Health and Safety practices.

General Computer Skills
Knowledge of basic computing concepts. The ability to perform fundamental operating system functions. The ability to use computers in a secure manner. The ability to use common software applications, such as a. word processing, spread sheet program and presentation software. The ability to use the computer for Internet access and electronic communication.

Produces results or provides service that meets or exceeds Sentech standards. Shows concern for quality, accuracy, and completeness of work activities. Plans own work activities in advance to ensure that all assignments are completed in a timely and quality manner.
