About the position
RFG Foods (Fresh Food Division) is in need of a qualified and trade-tested Millwright ?Electrician with an electrical background paired with mechanical experience.
The candidate will be responsible for attending to all electrical, instrumentation, and mechanical breakdowns to ensure optimum machinery efficiency and performance to prevent or minimize any disruption to the production schedule and maintain the required quality and safety standards.
The candidate must be experienced with pumps & motors, panel control wiring, VSD / soft starter installation, Instrumentation wiring/calibration (temperature, flow, pressure, conductivity, or other characteristics of instruments) and Electrical / PLC fault-findings.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Have strong fault-finding knowledge and techniques of E&I circuits, relay logic, HMI, PLCs, Drives, P&ID, Instrumentation & Control
- Possess in-depth knowledge of and experience in process monitoring instruments
- Have appropriate knowledge of instrumentation control principles and practices
- Provide maintenance, troubleshooting, instrument calibration, inspection, testing and repairs to equipment.
- Conduct inspections and corrective electrical/mechanical maintenances to all machinery
- Overhaul plant machinery as scheduled and as necessary
- Ensure minimum downtime in the event of a breakdown
- Investigate and analyze the cause and effect of breakdowns on equipment
- Diagnose malfunctioning systems and equipment to locate the cause of the breakdowns
- Repair pneumatics, hydraulics, Freon Gas / Glycol cooling systems, cold rooms, farm & effluent plant equipment Hydraulics, pneumatics
- Report any problems that require additional attention or parts to the Foreman
- Execute fault-finding and problem-solving related to equipment
- Plan layout, installation, and repair based on job specifications
- Perform regular maintenance and repair of equipment
- Read and interpret electrical or mechanical schematics
- Respond to daily maintenance requests, investigate complaints, and carry out the required maintenance work
- Analyze proposed modifications and provide input regarding the implementation of solutions within required timeframes
- Ensure light fittings throughout the factory and offices are kept in good working condition
- Perform preventative maintenance activities as per the PM Schedule
- Knowledge of computerized maintenance management system
- Update planned maintenance system
- Ensure compliance with OHS Act, Regulations, and organization safety rules
- Ensure compliance with relevant GMP, FSSC 22000, and factory quality standards
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Millwright / Electrician Trade Test qualifications
- N4 - N6 Certificate or Diploma in Electrical, Instrumentation, or Electronics Engineering
- Minimum 5 years post apprenticeship experience in the FMCG Industry, automated environment or similar
- Relevant experience in the Food Manufacturing Industry will be beneficial
- A strong technical ability
- Knowledge of wiring code SANS 10142
- Computer Literacy (MS Office - Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook)
- Prepared to work overtime, shifts, standby and be on callouts when required
- Own reliable transport is essential
- A valid driver's license essential
