About the position

Education & Registration

• National Diploma or BTech in Electrical Engineering

Must be registered with ECSA as one of the following:

• Candidate Engineer (Eng.), OR
• Candidate Engineering Technologist (Tech. Eng.), OR
• Candidate Engineering Technician (Techni. Eng.)

Experience

• Minimum 3 years of relevant electrical engineering experience
• Proven experience in heavy current electrical systems
• Background in substation design and/or construction
• Experience with electrical reticulation networks
• Knowledge of overhead power line systems
• High voltage electrical system experience

Technical Skills

• Proficiency in electrical design software (AutoCAD, ETAP, or similar)
• Understanding of electrical protection systems
• Knowledge of electrical construction methodologies
• Familiarity with electrical testing equipment and procedures
• Understanding of electrical safety protocols and regulations

Additional Requirements

• Valid driver's license (Code B minimum)
• Ability to work at heights and in various weather conditions
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
• Willingness to travel to project sites as required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience with municipal electrical infrastructure
• Knowledge of renewable energy systems
• Familiarity with project management principles
• Additional ECSA registration progress toward Professional status
• Experience with electrical commissioning procedures

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical Duties

• Assist in the design and implementation of electrical reticulation systems
• Support substation design projects and commissioning activities
• Participate in overhead power line construction and maintenance
• Conduct heavy current electrical installations and modifications
• Perform high voltage electrical system testing and troubleshooting
• Assist with electrical construction project planning and execution
• Prepare technical drawings, specifications, and documentation
• Conduct site inspections and quality control assessments

Project Support

• Collaborate with engineering teams on electrical infrastructure projects
• Assist in project planning, scheduling, and resource allocation
• Monitor project progress and report on technical milestones
• Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards and regulations
• Support commissioning and testing of electrical systems

Documentation & Compliance

• Maintain accurate project records and technical documentation
• Ensure adherence to SANS standards and municipal regulations
• Prepare technical reports and progress updates
• Support regulatory submissions and approval processes
