About the position
The Electrical Technician is part of the Engineering team and reports to the Technical Manager. He/she works with other departments of the company to achieve his/her accountabilities, i.e. Sales, Purchasing, Finance, Warehouse and Production. Work takes place at, but not limited to, Richards Bay (Hillside), Johannesburg and Mozambique (Mozal).
Primary Purpose :
- Perform electrical and electronic engineering work within the department to support:- The client directly with technical queries they may have.
- The project managers with related project work on site and at the office.
- The production department with refurbishment of customer equipment.
- Contribute to good company culture, improvements in quality, health, safety and environmental [URL Removed] aspects include, but are not limited to, low voltage electrical systems (AC and DC), instrumentation, control systems, PLC's and VFD's, industrial communications, panel building, cabling, switchgear, power and control wiring, motors, system testing and auditing, running trials [URL Removed] duties include drafting of electrical drawings, price estimations, generate quotations, writing reports (feasibility, technical, project etc.), working with basic financial systems, updating and creating part lists and bills of material, equipment and cable schedules, CRM software entries, SAP software work, spare parts inventory work etc.
Accountabilities
- Deliver specialised electrical skills to support client's products, projects and operations.
- Maintain contact with customers to be aware of technical problems at site.
- Analyse technical problems, plan and implement improvement measures.
- Initiate and discuss modifications or improvements with client.
- Write and/or review Scope of Work with the client and suppliers.
- Evaluate feasibility of refits and modernisation projects.
- Do estimations and quotations for electrical & automation projects.
- Design and/or update electrical diagrams.
- Audit equipment and processes at site.
- Understand and faultfind using PLC programs on the equipment.
- Assist with cabling and wiring of sensitive systems.
- Ensure adherence to Fives design procedures and standards for local manufacturing.
- Support the production department by ensuring availability of drawings, equivalences and specifications.
- Assist with quality assurance and quality control to guarantee standards are followed and non-conformances minimised.
Education and Relevant Experience
- Dip or B.Tech Degree in electrical engineering, B.Eng. Tech. or equivalent.
- GCC Factories is preferred
- 5 Years proven working experience in the field of electrical engineering.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Excel), AutoCAD.
- Marketing skills for identifying possible new projects and business opportunities.
- Technical knowledge equipment used in aluminium industry is advantageous.
- Basic financial comprehension pertaining to budgets, estimations, cost control and reporting.
- Good understanding of principles of health, safety, environmental and quality in the workplace
