About the position
ROLE OVERVIEW:
We are looking for a qualified Electrical Engineer (PR Eng / PR Tech Eng) with a solid track record in the solar energy sector. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, implementation, and project management of solar and hybrid energy systems. You must have strong technical knowledge in solar PV systems, generators, and medium voltage (MV) networks, and be confident in leading projects from inception to commissioning.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design and oversee the installation of solar PV systems and hybrid solutions, including generator integration.
- Conduct feasibility studies and energy yield assessments.
- Manage projects from concept to completion: scope, cost, timelines, and quality.
- Ensure all electrical designs comply with SANS, NRS, and relevant engineering codes.
- Prepare technical drawings, system layouts, and single-line diagrams.
- Manage contractors and subcontractors on-site to ensure successful project execution.
- Conduct system performance analysis and produce client reports.
- Interface with clients, municipalities, utilities, and other stakeholders.
- Oversee commissioning, testing, and handover of completed systems.
- Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and technicians.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- BSc/BEng or BTech in Electrical Engineering.
- Registered as a PR Eng or PR Tech Eng with ECSA (essential).
- Minimum 5 years' experience in the solar or renewable energy industry.
- Project management experience - PMP certification is advantageous.
- Proven knowledge and hands-on experience with:
o Solar PV systems (grid-tied and off-grid)
o Generators (diesel or hybrid systems)
o Medium voltage (MV) networks
- Familiarity with relevant tools/software such as PVsyst, AutoCAD, ETAP, and MS Project.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites.
