About the position
Background:
- Excellent career opportunity withing a leading manufacturing company for an Electrical Engineer to design, calculate and review electrical designs
Minimum Requirements:
- National Diploma or Diploma in Electrical Engineering (NQF 6), or Advanced Diploma, BTech or Beng Tech in Electrical Engineering (NQF 7). heavy current or power preferred
- 3+ Years experience in the electrical design of low-voltage switchgear, control panels, or industrial electrical systems, including the calculations
- Working knowledge of IEC 61439, IEC 60204-1, and SANS 10142-1
- Familiarity with UL 508A is an advantage
- Working experience in AutoCAD electrical, or another device-based electrical design system
- Registration as an Installation Electrician (Wireman's License) is an advantage
- Valid driver's license, and willing to travel to site for commissioning
Responsibilities:
- Design the electrical content of control panels, distribution boards and systems, single-line, protection, control power, earthing, and enclosure arrangement, to the required standards
- Perform and record the design calculations for every design: Cable sizing, short-circuit and SCCR, protection coordination and enclosure thermal checks
- Define the design verification and routine verification evidence required for each panel type under IEC 61439, and keep the verification records
- Verify completed units independently of the people who built them: point-to-point, electrical safety tests, and factory acceptance testing
- Sign the verification record before dispatch
- Share site commissioning, start-up, and fault-finding with the Applications Engineer
- Specify switchgear and components, and give the Applications Engineer the technical input for quotations and tenders
- Investigate site failures and rework, trace each to the step that should have caught it, and feed the finding back into the standard, the drawings, or the test procedure
