Position: PrEng Electrical Engineer – Alternative Energy Solutions

Brief Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled PrEng Electrical Engineer with proven experience in Alternative Energy infrastructure projects, specifically within Medium Voltage (MV) networks, Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and hybrid power solutions.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end engineering lifecycle including system design, technical review, project execution, commissioning, and operational support of renewable energy systems exceeding 500kW capacity.
This role requires strong technical capability in renewable energy engineering, grid integration, and onsite project delivery within commercial and industrial environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the engineering design and implementation of Solar PV, BESS, and Hybrid Energy projects.
- Design and review Medium Voltage (MV) reticulation and power distribution systems.
- Develop Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), protection schemes, load calculations, and detailed engineering drawings.
- Design and oversee Solar Distribution Boards (DBs), inverter integration, protection coordination, and grid-tied systems.
- Perform electrical system studies including load flow, fault level, and protection coordination assessments.
- Provide technical leadership during installation, testing, commissioning, and handover phases.
- Conduct onsite inspections, FAT/SAT testing, troubleshooting, and quality assurance activities.
- Ensure compliance with NRS, SANS, IEC, and utility interconnection standards.
- Support EPC project execution through technical reporting, contractor management, and engineering oversight.
- Manage as-built documentation, engineering change controls, and commissioning reports.
- Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and performance optimization of operational renewable energy assets.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
- Professional Registration with ECSA
- Experience within Renewable Energy / Solar
- Experience with:
- Solar PV systems
- Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
- Hybrid power systems
- Medium Voltage (MV) infrastructure
- Grid-tied and off-grid systems
- Solar DB and protection design
- Systems exceeding 500kW capacity
- Strong understanding of power systems, protection coordination, and electrical compliance standards
- Experience with onsite construction support, commissioning, and project delivery
- Ability to manage multiple engineering projects simultaneously
Advantageous Experience
- Commercial and Industrial (C&I) renewable energy projects
- Utility-scale Solar PV or hybrid systems
- MV switching and commissioning experience
- SCADA, EMS, or energy monitoring systems exposure
- EPC project environment experience
