About the position
Shape the future of power systems in Africa!
Is this you?
You're an experienced electrical or mechatronic engineer with a strong background in power system protection studies. You thrive in a technical environment, enjoy problem-solving, and have a keen interest in renewable energy projects. You're independent, proactive, and capable of managing projects while mentoring junior engineers. If you're looking for an opportunity to make a tangible impact in the energy sector, this is for you.
What you'll be doing (and why you'll enjoy it)
You'll be conducting protection coordination and arc flash studies, ensuring power systems are efficient and compliant. Your expertise will contribute to critical power system studies, including grid code compliance and impact assessments. You'll play a key role in training and mentoring engineers while managing projects from both a technical and financial perspective. Additionally, you'll engage with existing clients and develop new relationships, helping to drive innovation in Africa's power sector.
Where you'll be doing it
Our client is a specialist energy consultancy providing technical solutions to major players in the power and renewable energy industry. With a dedicated team of engineers in South Africa and the UK, they deliver expert consultancy on power system studies, grid integration, and regulatory compliance. They offer a dynamic, collaborative, and innovative work environment, supporting professional growth and industry leadership.
What you'll need
A Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechatronic Engineering is essential, along with experience in power system analysis using software like DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSS/E, or ETAP. You should have a strong understanding of protection settings from LV to HV, AC/DC arc flash studies, and South African grid codes. Experience in site-based protection commissioning, electromagnetic transient studies, or earthing studies would be a plus.
What you'll get
Competitive salary, discretionary performance bonuses & professional development support in an intimate team and diverse projects. You'll also benefit from a flexible hybrid working policy and an additional day off for your birthday!
