ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Education & Qualifications
- National Diploma/Certificate in Electrical Engineering or Draughting
- Relevant trade qualification in electrical field preferred
- Valid driver's license
Technical Skills
- Minimum 3-5 years experience in electrical draughting, specifically heavy current applications
- Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar)
- Experience with electrical design software (ETAP, CDEGS, or equivalent) advantageous
- Strong knowledge of electrical symbols, conventions, and drawing standards
- Understanding of electrical protection systems and equipment
Specialized Experience
Substation Design:
- Experience in HV/MV substation layout design, protection schemes, and earthingsystems
- Electrical Reticulation:
- Knowledge of distribution network design, cable sizing, and switchgearselection
- Overhead Lines:
- Understanding of transmission/distribution line design, conductor selection, andpole structures
Technical Knowledge
- Thorough understanding of electrical codes and standards (SANS 10142, SANS 10199, IEC standards)
- Knowledge of electrical equipment specifications and applications
- Understanding of electrical protection principles and coordination
- Familiarity with municipal and Eskom connection requirements
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
- Experience with 3D CAD modeling software
- Knowledge of project management principles
- Previous exposure to renewable energy projects
- Experience in industrial, mining, or utility sectors
- Professional registration or working towards ECSA registration

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical Drawing & Design
- Prepare detailed electrical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation for heavy currentprojects
- Develop comprehensive substation layout drawings, single line diagrams, and protection schemes
- Create electrical reticulation system drawings including cable routing, switchgear layouts, anddistribution networks
- Design overhead power line drawings including pole schedules, conductor layouts, and clearancediagrams
- Produce panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and equipment installation details
- Generate material take-offs and equipment schedules from drawings
Project Support
- Collaborate with electrical engineers to translate design concepts into technical drawings
- Review and verify drawings for accuracy, compliance with standards, and design intent
- Assist in design modifications and drawing revisions throughout project lifecycle
- Support site installation teams with technical clarifications and as-built documentation
- Participate in design reviews and technical meetings
Documentation & Standards
- Ensure all drawings comply with relevant South African and international electrical standards (SANS,IEC, etc.)
- Maintain drawing version control and project documentation systems
- Update standard drawing templates and company design guidelines
- Prepare technical reports and documentation as required
