The Role
As a Subject Specialist Educator, you will be responsible for delivering engaging, interactive online learning experiences while contributing to curriculum development, assessment and learner success.
Key responsibilities include:
- Deliver engaging live online lessons.
- Plan lessons, schemes of work and interactive learning activities.
- Develop learning content aligned to the relevant curriculum and examination board.
- Design, mark and moderate formative and summative assessments.
- Prepare learners for external examinations.
- Monitor learner engagement and academic progress using digital learning analytics.
- Identify learners who may be at risk and work collaboratively to provide early intervention.
- Respond to learner subject-related queries within agreed turnaround times.
- Participate in parent meetings, progress reporting and academic activities.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of online teaching and learning.
- Maintain high standards of child protection, eSafety, academic integrity and responsible technology use.
- Participate in ongoing professional development, lesson observations and performance development activities.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor of Education degree or equivalent qualification; OR
- Bachelor's degree in the relevant subject area together with a PGCE.
- Minimum 3 years' teaching experience in the relevant subject.
- Experience teaching within at least one of the following:
- Cambridge International
- Pearson Edexcel
- OxfordAQA
- IEB
- SACAI / NSC
Excellent command of English.
Strong presentation and communication skills.
Ability to engage and maintain the attention of school-age learners in an online environment.
Reliable high-speed internet connection.
Suitable computer, webcam and professional home teaching environment.
Availability to teach according to the SAST (UTC+2) timetable.
Advantageous
- Cambridge International experience, particularly IGCSE, AS or A Level.
- Experience teaching across more than one examination board.
- Experience teaching more than one subject.
- Previous live online teaching experience.
- Experience using digital learning platforms and online teaching technologies.
- SACE registration.
- Experience with IEB, SACAI or the South African National Senior Certificate.
