About the position
POSITION OUTLINE:
Durban office of a reputable consulting engineering company is in the process of reviewing candidates to fill a vacancy for an E&I Project Engineer.
The E&I Project Engineer is responsible for the engineering and design of complex projects in the industrial, petrochemical and commercial sectors. A strong technical background will therefore be necessary to do the detailed electrical engineering designs (MV, LV, motor control, stand-by power supplies, earthing and lightning protection system design, power system analysis/protection design etc.).
You will be responsible for the engineering and design of complex projects in the industrial, petrochemical and commercial sectors.
An extremely high degree of accuracy in design is required in order to fulfil the requirements of this role. It is therefore essential that the successful candidate is self-driven, mature and takes responsibility for the quality of their own work.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- BSc. or BTech in Electrical Engineering
- Professional Registration with ECSA is advantageous
- 8 or more years hands-on experience in E&I field installations, testing and commissioning.
- A strong technical background to do the detailed electrical engineering designs (MV, LV, motor control, stand-by power supplies, earthing and lightning protection system design, power system analysis / protection design etc.)
- Experience with codes and standards including SANS and IEC.
- Must be able to read and interpret electrical engineering reports/drawings
- Experience working in a project team, including managing budgets and schedules.
- Experience heavy industry / petrochemical industries is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to travel to client sites as needed.
JOB DUTIES:
- Project Management
- Preparing, scheduling, coordinating and monitoring of assigned engineering projects.
- Interacting with clients, interpreting their needs and requirements.
- Performing quality control tasks on budgets, schedules, plans, and team performance and reporting on project status.
- Cooperating and communicating with the project director / manager and other project participants and collaborating with senior engineers to create more efficient project methods and to maintain the project’s profitability.
- Review the engineering tasks and initiating the necessary corrective actions
- Site Investigations
- Visits sites and prepare evaluations of existing sites
- Preparation of conceptual designs
- Assist with the preparation of conceptual reports which will include preliminary designs and analyses, drawings, cost estimates, project schedules and project implementation plans.
- Develop specifications for the projects required equipment.
- Preparation of Detailed Designs
- Preparation of detailed designs, analyses, tender drawings, schedules of quantities, contract documents, project cost estimates, project schedules and project implementation plans
- Prepare equipment datasheets and specifications
- Establish field tests methods and methods for monitoring the quality of those tests.
- Ensure the project’s compliance with the applicable codes, practices, policies, performance standards and specifications.
- Supervision of Tender Process
- Assist with management of the Issue of tenders, preparation of notices to tenders, adjudication of tenders and preparation of tender reporting.
- Supervision of Construction
- Assist with handling site queries, prepare monthly payment certificates, cost report cost control and manage quality assurance
- Visits sites during construction to confirm installations are being done as per design intent.
