About the position

A Driver Assistant's duties primarily involve supporting a van driver with deliveries and ensuring smooth logistics operations. This includes tasks like loading and unloading goods, assisting with navigation, and maintaining the vehicle's cleanliness and roadworthiness. They also play a role in customer service, interacting with clients during deliveries.

Duties & Responsibilities

Delivery Support:

  • Loading and Unloading:

Assisting the driver with safely loading and unloading goods, ensuring proper handling and secure placement within the van.

  • Navigating to Destinations:

Providing directions or using navigation tools to guide the driver to delivery locations, often following a pre-determined schedule.

  • Customer Interaction:
  • Interacting with customers during deliveries, handling paperwork (like delivery confirmations)

Vehicle and Logistics Management:

  • Pre and Post-Trip Inspections: Assisting the driver with safety checks of the van, including checking brakes, lights, and other equipment, both before and after each trip.
  • Maintaining Vehicle Cleanliness: Keeping the van clean and tidy, ensuring it's presentable for deliveries.
  • Reporting Issues: Notifying the driver or relevant personnel about any maintenance or repair needs of the vehicle.
  • Following Safety Procedures: Adhering to all relevant road safety regulations and company policies.
  • Maintaining Professionalism: Representing the company positively in interactions with customers.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Education: Matric or matric equivalent (NCV L4) is essential.
  • Driver's License: Valid Code 8/10 driver's license and Valid PDP.
  • Record: Clear criminal record.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years courier delivery experience.
  • Technology: Own Smart Phone, preferably operating on Android Operating System.
  • Availability: Ability to work shifts.
  • Skills: Courier experience is essential. Familiarity with Cape Town routes is required.
  • Collaboration: Must be a team player and demonstrate flexibility.
  • Language Proficiency: Proficient in reading, writing, and understanding English.
  • Navigation Skills: Must be able to read and understand road maps and operate a GPS effectively.
